2019 Preakness Stakes by the Numbers

This year’s Preakness Stakes won’t feature the Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve winner but is expected to include 13 horses eager to add the prestige of a Preakness victory to their resumes. The historic race will be run on Saturday at Pimlico in Baltimore, and you can get ready for the race with the stats and facts below.

1 3/16 miles – The distance of the Preakness since 1925. It’s a sixteenth of a mile shorter than the Kentucky Derby.

1 ½ miles – The distance the Preakness was contested at from 1873-1888 and in 1890.

1:53 – Secretariat’s  time in the 1973 race, a record. It was originally timed in 1:54 2/5, but that error was corrected in 2012, giving him the speed record in all three Triple Crown races.
